Boozy Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
It has been cold in Pennsylvania; quite the change from last week's 100 degree temps. This put me in the mood for hot chocolate and I wanted to come up with something extraordinary to share with you. Hmmm...how to take hot cholate to the next level of delicious?! I thought through all the standards, peppermint schnapps, marshmallows, whipped cream and thought through my liquor cabinet. So many excellent options.
The search brought back memories of my pregnancy and my baby shower. For whatever reason, while I was pregnant I was gifted multiple bottles of liquor which always makes me think of the Friends baby shower for Phoebe with the leather pants and liquor gifts. (If you haven't seen it, check out the clip here you will not be disappointed.) I didn't have quite the same reaction as Phoebe to my Bourbon and Cinnamon Rum from my Manager and my employee...but I digress.
Back to the point...Cinnamon Rum Hot Chocolate is where I landed in my search for the best hot chocolate recipe...at least the best one for today. I always put a sprinkle of cinnamon in my hot chocolate so this made perfect sense. The pinch of cinnamon combines perfectly with the chocolate for the perfectly balanced hot chocolate and just adds an extra level of warmth to hot chocolate.
Now for the recipe.
3 cups whole milk
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup sugar
1/8 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp. Cinnamon Rum (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a medium sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until steaming and continue to heat until you reach your desired temp. Pour into coffee mug. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
Now, go start the flip the switch on your fireplace, find a cozy blanket and settle in for a cozy break on your next cold and rainy or (soon enough) snowy day on your couch with this hot chocolate and binge your favorite television show. That's my plan for the next 30 minutes...a little mini mom-cation until little man wakes up from his morning nap or if I'm lucky a full episode of my latest Amazon Prime series.
